AI Email Cleaner Redesign: Meet the Zero Inbox Chat Agent

We redesigned the Zero Inbox AI Email Cleaner around a chat interface.
Instead of opening a dashboard and figuring out which controls to use, you can start with the outcome you want:
Clean my emails.
The Email Cleaner gets to work, tells you what it is doing, and brings the decisions that need your attention back into the conversation. You can see how many emails it has scanned, review the items it found, preview the messages, choose what should happen, and approve the action.
The interface is simpler because the job is already complicated enough.
Your inbox contains promotions, newsletters, receipts, customer conversations, travel confirmations, alerts, and messages from people you care about. An AI email cleaner should help sort through that complexity without making the final decisions invisible.
That is what this redesign is built to do.
Email cleanup should feel like a conversation
Most people do not think about inbox cleanup as a set of filters, labels, and configuration screens.
They think:
- clean the emails I do not need
- show me what is taking up space
- help me get through this backlog
- do not lose anything important
A chat interface gives those goals a natural place to begin.
You ask the Email Cleaner for help. Zero starts the workflow and reports back inside the same conversation. When the cleaner finds messages that need judgment, it does not hide them in another part of the product. It presents a review card with the current status and the available actions.
The result is not an empty chatbot window. It is conversation on top and a structured cleanup workflow underneath.

How the AI Email Cleaner chat agent works
The redesigned workflow has four clear stages.
1. Ask Zero to clean your inbox
The conversation starts with a direct request.
You do not need to understand the mechanics of the cleaner before using it. You tell Zero what you want, and the agent connects that request to the Email Cleaner workflow.
In the example above, the request is simply: Clean my emails.
That is enough to begin.
2. Follow the scan as it runs
Zero responds in the conversation and shows the live workflow state.
The Email Cleaner card makes the important details visible:
- whether the cleaner is running
- how many emails have been scanned
- how many items need review
- which sender or group is currently waiting for a decision
You do not have to wonder whether the request worked or what the AI is doing in the background. The status stays attached to the conversation that started the cleanup.
3. Review what the cleaner found
When a sender or group needs attention, Zero gives you a review step.
You can see the sender, understand why the group was created, and preview the underlying emails before deciding what should happen. Instead of asking you to trust a broad AI judgment, the interface makes the recommendation inspectable.
That matters because two emails that look similar to a model can have very different value to the person who owns the inbox.
A promotion may be disposable. A receipt from the same company may need to stay. An automated notification may be clutter today and useful evidence later.
The cleaner helps reduce the number of decisions. It does not pretend those decisions no longer matter.
4. Choose the action and approve it
The review card lets you select the intended action, preview the emails, and approve the result.
In the redesigned interface, approval is not a separate principle buried in a settings page. It is part of the main workflow.
Zero can scan and organize the work. You decide whether the group should be moved to trash or handled another way. Nothing about the conversational interface removes that checkpoint.
This is the core interaction:
Ask. Review. Approve.
Chat makes the cleaner easier to understand
AI products often become harder to trust as they become more capable.
A button performs a large action. A progress indicator moves. Something changes in the background. The user is left trying to reconstruct what happened.
We wanted the redesigned Email Cleaner to move in the other direction.
The conversation explains the workflow in plain language. The live card shows operational details. The preview provides evidence. The approval button makes the decision explicit.
Each part answers a different question:
- Chat: What did I ask Zero to do?
- Status: Is the cleaner running?
- Scan count: How much has it reviewed?
- Needs review: Where is my judgment required?
- Preview: Which emails are included?
- Action selector: What will happen to them?
- Approve: Am I ready to make that change?
That combination makes the AI useful without turning the inbox into a black box.
An AI agent should bring decisions to you
The old model of inbox software asks you to visit different screens for different kinds of work.
One screen shows senders. Another handles subscriptions. Another contains filters. Another shows cleanup progress. Every feature may be available, but the user still has to assemble the workflow.
An agent can coordinate that work.
You begin with the task rather than the tool. The agent starts the appropriate workflow, monitors its progress, and returns with the items that require attention.
This changes the role of the AI Email Cleaner.
It is no longer only a utility that processes a batch of messages. It becomes an agent that can keep the cleanup moving while preserving the moments where human judgment matters.
That is especially valuable for a large inbox. The goal is not to make someone watch every message being scanned. The goal is to let the agent handle the repetitive work and surface the smaller number of decisions worth reviewing.
Explicit approval is part of the design
Zero Inbox has always been built around a permission-first approach:
- The Official AI Email Organizer.
- The Safest AI Email Cleaner.
- Asks for Permission every time.
- Does not auto-delete your emails like the other AI Email Cleaners.
The chat agent does not replace that principle. It makes it more visible.
Email can contain contracts, customer history, financial records, account alerts, travel plans, job opportunities, and personal conversations. A cleaner can save hours of repetitive work, but speed is only useful when you still understand what the software is about to do.
The redesigned interface keeps the proposed action beside the preview and approval control. The cleaner performs the scan. The user authorizes the change.

From an AI email cleaner to an AI email agent
This redesign is part of a larger direction for Zero Inbox.
Email software should not require people to translate every goal into a manual sequence of menus and rules. You should be able to describe the outcome, let the product prepare the work, and step in where your judgment is needed.
For inbox cleanup, that means starting a scan through chat, following its progress, reviewing the proposed groups, and approving the action.
For the broader AI email organizer, it means an experience that can help coordinate email work without quietly taking control away from the person who owns the inbox.
The chat interface is important because it gives all of those workflows one clear starting point: ask Zero.
A simpler path to inbox zero
Getting to inbox zero should not require becoming an expert in email filters.
The redesigned Zero Inbox AI Email Cleaner gives you a more direct workflow:
- Ask Zero to clean your emails.
- Let the cleaner scan the inbox.
- Review the senders and groups it finds.
- Preview the emails when you need more context.
- Choose the cleanup action.
- Approve before anything changes.
